Hybrid smartwatch: Withings Scanwatch Brilliant with an elegant look

Withings is expanding its smartwatch portfolio with new models in a classic, elegant look. At the IFA in Berlin, the French digital health specialist is showing the new Scanwatch Nova Brilliant Edition, which will be available from November.

With a multi-link steel strap and fluted bezel, the design is inspired by classic models from a well-known Swiss watch manufacturer. The smartwatch with a stainless steel strap is available in the color variants “titanium silver” and “bicolor” (silver and gold). According to the manufacturer, the fluted bezel of the silver version is made of titanium.

Sapphire crystal, OLED, Superluminova

The case of the hybrid smartwatch is made of stainless steel and measures 39 mm in diameter. It is water-resistant up to 50 meters (5 ATM). Under the sapphire glass is the high-resolution round grayscale OLED display with a diameter of 1.6 cm (14,504 pixels, 282 ppi pixel density and 16-bit grayscale). The second analog display can be used to determine progress towards the daily step goal. The indices on the dial and the hands are filled with Superluminova luminous material.

In contrast to the Withings models Scanwatch 2 and Scanwatch Nova introduced last year, the internal values ​​are the same. According to the manufacturer, they offer a battery life of 30 days. The hybrid smartwatch connects to the Withings app on the smartphone (iOS/Android) via Bluetooth Low Energy.

The watch displays notifications from the smartphone, various sports programs and vital signs recorded by the sensors. The watch also uses an ECG function to detect atrial fibrillation. The watch also measures changes in heart rate and body temperature during the night and determines the oxygen level in the blood. Finally, the Scanwatch 2 can monitor sleep and the female cycle.

The Scanwatch Nova Brilliant will be available from the beginning of November for just under 600 euros from selected retailers and the manufacturer’s online shop. In addition to the steel strap, the delivery includes a plastic strap with a stainless steel clasp and a tool for shortening the steel strap. A charging cradle and a matching USB cable are also included.
