No start in Sweden jersey: Warholm cancels due to injury

The eagerly awaited start of the 400 m hurdles world record holder Karsten Warholm in the Swedish national jersey at the Diamond League meeting in Zurich has been cancelled. The Norwegian cancelled his participation at short notice due to an injury.

On Wednesday evening, he had lost a 100 m exhibition race against pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis and was supposed to compete in his Swedish conqueror’s national colors in honor of his opponent.

After the event, Warholm reported in several interviews on Thursday evening that he felt something in the back of his thigh. “Maybe that was my last race this season,” said the 28-year-old Olympic silver medalist from Paris, also with a view to the Diamond League final on September 13 and 14 in Brussels. Warholm said that he does not think it is anything serious, but that he will now have it examined at home.

He still paid off his bet and appeared in the Letzigrund Stadium wearing a yellow Swedish national jersey – although he then wrapped himself in a Norwegian flag. Warholm had sprinted a personal best of 100 m with 10.47 seconds, but was slower than Duplantis, who won in 10.37 seconds.
