WhatsApp is developing a new feature for Android users: status updates should be accessible directly from a viewer list. The innovation promises a more intuitive operation of the popular messenger and could increase interaction with status updates.

Simplified access to status updates

WhatsApp is constantly working on improvements for its users. As WABetaInfo reports, the messenger service is currently testing a new function that is intended to simplify access to status messages. However, the new feature is currently only available in beta version 2.24.19.4 for Android users.

The new feature allows users to open status updates directly from the viewer list. Previously, users had to switch to the separate Status tab to see new updates. With the change, a green ring will be displayed around the profile pictures of those contacts who have posted new status updates.

More intuitive operation and possible effects

It is expected that the simplified accessibility could lead to increased usage of the status feature. Users can now access new content faster and easier without having to learn through different menus.

The feature builds on previous improvements. WhatsApp had previously introduced the ability to view status updates directly from the chat list. The current expansion to the viewer list is a logical next step in development.
