A few days before All Out 2024, the upcoming major event of WWE rival AEW, the league has taken the rivalry between former World Champions Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland to the extreme: The current edition of the TV show Dynamite ended with Page setting fire to Strickland’s birthplace. The arch rivals will meet on Sunday in Chicago in an “Unsanctioned Lights Out Steel Cage Match,” a cage fight without rules. The bitter segment that has now fueled the rivalry once again was correctly predicted by some attentive fans.

Strickland vs. Page: The biggest hate feud in AEW

Strickland and Page have been in a long-running feud since the summer of 2023, which has already featured several controversial moments: The main theme was a break-in by Strickland at Page’s house last fall, in which Strickland broke into the bedroom of Page’s young son and left a threatening message.

A brutal Texas Death Match followed at Full Gear, which was widely praised but also criticized for some particularly brutal scenes. Strickland won, paving the way for his World Title reign – meanwhile, the feud with Page continued to simmer. At the annual highlight All In at London’s Wembley Stadium two weeks ago, Page interfered with Strickland’s title and helped him lose it to Bryan Danielson.

Because of his unquenchable desire for revenge, Page has transformed into a darker, more aggressive version of himself in recent months. Now the “heel turn” that had initially been creeping up has come into full bloom.

Some fans smelled a rat even before Dynamite

The Dynamite segment was preceded by AEW releasing a social media video on Wednesday in which Strickland announced that he had bought back his childhood home in the city of Tacoma, Washington.

Strickland spoke emotionally about his eventful life story and how his family had to give up the house due to financial problems. He said it was a life goal to work so hard that he could buy back the personal memorial.

AEW did not spell out that the real event could be involved in the story with Page – but attentive fans on social media such as X and Reddit quickly began to speculate whether Page could target the house. Especially since he had recently threatened Strickland with the telling threat of “burning everything that means something to you to the ground”.

In fact, the fans’ suspicions turned out to be true: While Strickland was appearing in front of the fans at Dynamite in faraway Milwaukee, Page reported in via video clip from Strickland’s hometown – and delivered a bitter monologue about his unfinished business with his arch-rival.

Strickland recently signed new deal

Page himself referred to an announcement that he would burn down everything that was dear to Strickland. He would complete his work at All Out, but would now give a foretaste.

Before the horrified eyes of Strickland and his manager Prince Nana, Page ended up pouring gasoline on Strickland’s house and setting it on fire. In a cinematic final scene, Page sat on a chair in front of the house and drank a glass of liquor while the house went up in flames behind him.

The match between Page and Strickland is said to be loud Wrestling Observer will be the main event of All Out on Sunday (which is also customary for a Lights Out Match – the name refers to the arena lights being turned on). It is the next big appearance for Strickland, who is increasingly proving to be perhaps the best catch AEW has made in recent years.

The former Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, who was fired by ex-boss Vince McMahon three years ago shortly after being called up to the main roster at WWE, recently signed a new five-year contract with AEW. WWE is said to have courted him and his congenial sidekick Nana in vain.
