NFL: Kelce again looking for sports headlines

NFL

Travis Kelce has been a household name for more than just football fans since his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift became known last year. With the start of the new season in the National Football League (NFL), the 34-year-old tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, who has made numerous appearances with Swift on TV shows and even at a concert in London, can now make headlines again in the sporting world.

Despite all the distractions of the last few months, the three-time Super Bowl winner feels ready for the home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Friday night (2:20 a.m. CEST). He sees no difficulty in concentrating on his usual job alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“I just love coming here. I love football and how it takes my mind off of life. “It gives me something that I’m just honestly really happy about,” he said before the game against the Ravens. “I’m having so much fun working on my skills. It’s so great. It’s going to be really hard to have to decide to stop at some point.”

Increased criticism in the preseason

Over the course of last season, more and more voices were heard criticizing Kelce’s performance and accusing him of age. He missed the start of the season against the Detroit Lions with a knee injury, and his subsequent haul of five touchdowns and 984 yards of caught passes did not come close to the figures of previous years.

But then the playoffs came, and Kelce scored three touchdowns and 355 yards passing in four games – the end result was his third Super Bowl triumph with the Chiefs. Title number four is now the big goal of this season.

Touchdown club record within reach

But Kelce can already make history before the playoffs in January. He is three touchdowns behind Tony Gonzalez and number one in the Chiefs’ tight end rankings.

With seven touchdowns, he would also overtake Priest Holmes and have more than any other player in Kansas City Chiefs history. His 11,328 yards after passing are already a record.
