Before the start of the premier class: Sammer sure: VfB will advance in the Champions League

Matthias Sammer firmly believes that Stuttgart will survive the league phase of the Champions League. However, the team will still have to find its feet, says the 1996 European champion, who once wore the VfB jersey himself.

According to former national soccer player Matthias Sammer, VfB Stuttgart will definitely reach at least the knockout phase in the Champions League. “I don’t know who will make it into the top eight. But they will definitely make it into the intermediate group,” said the 56-year-old in his role as Prime Video expert on the Swabians’ prospects in their comeback season in the premier class.

“Stuttgart have lost important players, have also changed a bit and need to integrate one or the other and then show stability and euphoria,” explained the former VfB professional and coach, who himself won the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund in 1997.

Stuttgart are back in the most important European club competition for the first time in 15 years. The league phase begins on September 17th with a match against Spanish defending champions Real Madrid. Each of the 36 participants will initially play eight games.

The teams ranked 1st to 8th in the overall table then move directly into the round of 16. The teams ranked 9th to 24th play in an additional knockout round for the remaining round of 16 starting places.
