Apalachee High School in Winder cordoned off after shooting in Winder

According to a school report, a shooting occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder Wednesday morning.

The school sent a message to parents saying, “Apalachee High School is currently under strict lockdown following reports of shots fired. Police are here. Please do not attempt to come to school at this time while officers work to secure the area.”

The message was communicated to parents at 10:45 am.

There were no official reports of injuries, but Fox-5 TV in Atlanta reported that one person was seen being loaded into a helicopter and transported to a hospital. WSB-TV also reported that a second person was being loaded into an ambulance.

Parents are allowed to pick up their children from school. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation also has agents on site.

The school is one of two high schools in the Barrow County school system.
