Sodenmatt Quarter in Bremen-Huchting: Barbecue on Thyssen premises

In order to make the planned Sodenmatt quarter on the former Thyssen site more appealing to the people of Huchting, a public barbecue will be held there on Friday. A good opportunity for those interested to get to know the area and the people who currently work there in various companies. That is definitely the idea of ​​the team from the Huchting cultural center, which is organizing the festival.

“We want to introduce the people from the district to the people in the area,” says Vera Zimmermann from the Huchting cultural center. A dance performance and artistically designed “booths” that the cultural education working group of the city culture association have jointly developed will also be used.

Acoustic Blind Date

These are walk-in boxes with telephones that you can use to contact other people who are also sitting in such a booth. “You have to imagine it like an acoustic blind date where skin color, age and clothing are not important,” says Zimmermann.

Anyone who feels like meeting someone in person after the conversation can continue to talk face to face with their conversation partner. The event is part of a project run by the Living in Neighborhoods funding program, which aims to try out different forms of encounter and dialogue in the Sodenmatt district.

Urban quarter is being created

In terms of urban development, the industrial site is set to undergo a number of changes in the coming years in the spirit of a “productive city.” The plan is for a mix of living, working and leisure, which will also include restaurants, local shopping facilities and social facilities.

The former administration building has already been converted into a daycare center. The Sodenmatt project company acquired the former Thyssen-Krupp Schulte company premises around three years ago and has since developed the factory premises, which cover around 40,000 square meters, into an urban district.
