The Parliament of Ghana will resume its emergency session on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

Parliament reconvened on Tuesday, 3 September 2024, following an emergency convening by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.

Due to ongoing repair work in the main hall of Parliament, the session will take place in the Dome of the International Conference Centre.

The reason for the dismissal was a petition by Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, who expressed the majority faction’s dissatisfaction with the Speaker’s decision to adjourn the previous session indefinitely on July 30, 2024.

The emergency meeting is expected to address several important issues, including discussions on a financing agreement between the Government of Ghana and the International Development Association, requests for tax exemptions for beneficiaries of the One District, One Factory programme and matters relating to the Ghana Financial Stability Fund.

However, Tuesday’s meeting was dominated by the issue of illegal small-scale mining (galamsey), which pollutes the country’s waters.

In the meantime, read GhanaWeb’s interview with Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, the Head of Local Government Service, where he explains the process of implementing projects that are originally government projects. He spoke to Etsey Atisu on The Lowdown:

GhanaWeb, Ghana’s leading digital news platform, in collaboration with Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, is launching an aggressive campaign to get Parliament to pass comprehensive laws regulating organ harvesting, organ donation and organ transplantation in the country.
