Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter came under criticism on Wednesday’s episode after making a comment about her appearance and makeup.

In the last episode, the panelists engaged in a heated debate on the topic “Do you judge someone by their makeup?” during which 77-year-old Janet made a brave admission.

Recalling an experience in which she judged someone for wearing too much makeup, she admitted, “I have to confess something I did two years ago. I went to a hospital appointment and I felt really bad as I shuffled in for my appointment.”

She continued: “The person at the desk had so much makeup on that she had two sets of false eyelashes on, she had everything contoured, her lips were lined in case I didn’t know where her mouth was, she was completely done up with her long fingernails so she couldn’t really type.”

In a shocking confession, she told the stunned audience: “She looked at me like I was something that had just been dug out of the bin. I was so upset that after I got out of hospital they sent me a form saying ‘How was your visit?’ And in the comments box I wrote ‘The lady at the reception should wear half as much make-up!'” reports the Mirror.

Charlene White, another panelist, rebuked her with a sharp “You got that? Janet!” but Janet stood her ground and insisted, “That’s not very inviting!”

When asked if the hospital ever responded to her feedback, Janet humorously admitted, “No, they obviously thought there were weirdos watching out for them! What I’m saying is that my reaction may have been over the top, but I believe that too much makeup is a form of armor…”

Loose Women’s Charlene, 44, had no hesitation in questioning the negative aspects that come with using heavy makeup, saying we shouldn’t judge the amount of makeup someone wears.

Meanwhile, viewers have been voicing their opinions on Twitter (now X), with one user commenting: “Do you judge someone by their makeup? The main reason most wear makeup is because they don’t feel their best. We all have days like that, just a bit of mascara and blush perks you up. Just let people be themselves.”

Elsewhere, another viewer agreed with Janet’s sentiment, stating: “@The_Real_JSP is right. Many wear as much makeup these days as a mask and armor; of course that’s their choice but usually it signifies low confidence and self-esteem. A guy recently told me he feels it hides their true personality and true beauty #LooseWomen.”

Another fan added to the makeup debate: “If someone is judging you it’s more about them and their feelings. No one is going to have their life completely figured out, we all learn every day and get by. xx.”
