Merz, Kretschmer, Voigt: CDU sends celebrities to the election campaign

Before the state elections in a few weeks, the CDU is sending its national celebrities to the Brandenburg election campaign. Today (6 p.m.) party leader Friedrich Merz and the two CDU top candidates from Saxony and Thuringia, Michael Kretschmer and Mario Voigt, will be appearing in Brandenburg an der Havel. Brandenburg CDU top candidate Jan Redmann has also announced that he will be attending the event. He will become Prime Minister after the election on September 22nd.

According to current polls, the CDU in Brandenburg is behind the AfD and almost on a par with the SPD. In both Saxony and Thuringia, the CDU will provide the Prime Minister.

In Saxony, the Christian Democrats of Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer were the strongest force last Sunday; in Thuringia, Björn Höcke’s AfD, which the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies as definitely right-wing extremist, is in the lead, but has no coalition partner in sight.
