Federer views Sinner case critically

Roger Federer has been critical of Jannik Sinner’s positive doping tests. “I think we pretty much trust that Jannik hasn’t done anything,” the Swiss said on the US television channel NBC’s “Today” program about the world number one tennis player, but added: “The possible discrepancy that he didn’t have to sit out while they weren’t 100 percent sure what was going on – I think that question needs to be answered.

Sinner tested positive for the anabolic steroid clostebol twice in March, but was not banned. He was later acquitted.

“It is the nightmare of every athlete and team to have these accusations and problems,” said Federer, stressing: “This is not something we want to see in our sport, such news – whether he did something or not, or any other player. This is simply noise that we do not want.
