Rangers return to Ibrox in Premier Sports Cup against Dundee

Rangers have confirmed they will return to Ibrox for the first time this season when they host Dundee in the Premier Sports Cup later this month.

The Gers were forced to play their first four home games of the season against Motherwell, Dynamo Kyiv, St Johnstone and Ross County at Hampden as renovation work on their Copland Stand was delayed by a delay in the delivery of materials from Asia.

In mid-July, it was announced that Philippe Clement’s team would play at the national stadium until the situation was resolved. Initial reports suggested it could be October before the team can return to their home stadium.

However, they will now return to Ibrox for their next scheduled home game, a Premier Sports Cup quarter-final against Dundee on Saturday 21 September. However, the Copland Stand will remain closed as “final work on the concourse and seating is underway”.

It remains to be seen whether this will impact on their ability to play their next home game in the William Hill Premiership against Hibernian the following weekend, which will obviously have a higher attendance of their season ticket holders.

A statement from the club on Tuesday said: “Rangers Football Club today confirmed that our Premier Sports Cup match against Dundee will take place at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday 21 September.

“With the exception of the Copland Stand, where final work is being done on the spectator stands and seating, all areas of our home will be open for this game.”

Meanwhile, Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo has withdrawn from Wales’ squad for the Nations League double-header against Turkey and Montenegro due to a thigh injury which forced him off in the first half of the 3-0 defeat to Celtic on Sunday.
