Rajasthan Police SI papers leaked: Police demand government cancel exam | Education News

The Rajasthan Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam is likely to be cancelled after reports of paper loss came to light. The police headquarters has sent a detailed report to the state government recommending cancellation of the exam.

There is no current information from the state government. The cancellation of the exam will have far-reaching consequences and affect the future of the candidates.

What is the case of the paper leak?

The controversy started when the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police filed a case against the disclosure of the SI recruitment exam papers in February 2024. The investigation revealed that two different gangs were behind the disclosure of the papers, which led to the arrest of 37 officers from different police stations who had obtained the exam papers in advance. The case took a serious turn when five more police officers were arrested, including the son and daughter of former Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Ramuram Raika.

SOG ADG Vijay Kumar Singh, who is leading the investigation, has reportedly filed a petition seeking cancellation of the recruitment exam. The petition details how the document was leaked from the exam centre and circulated across social media platforms. Director General of Police UR Sahu forwarded the petition to the state government where it was discussed at a high level. The government may soon take a decisive step on the matter.

When did the application process for Rajasthan Police SI recruitment 2024 start?

The recruitment drive aimed at filling 859 sub-inspector posts in the Rajasthan Police is under scrutiny following reports of a paper leak scandal. Over 7.97 lakh students have applied for the exam conducted on September 13, 14 and 15, 2021. These exams were held at 802 centres in 11 districts. The application process for the exam began on February 9, 2021 and ended on March 10, 2021. An additional application window for the economically weaker sections began on June 9 and will continue till June 23, 2021.

What are the consequences of cancelling an exam?

The cancellation of the application process will affect hundreds of thousands of applicants and there will be a new recruitment drive. The government will most likely face questions about the integrity of the recruitment process and the ability to prevent paper leaks in the future.

Students’ faith in the functioning of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has been shaken once again. According to the SOG investigation, RPSC member Ramuram Raika received the exam papers from another RPSC member, Babulal Katara, and shared the paper with his son and daughter seven days before the exam. Katara has been in jail since 2023 for a similar offence and is now being questioned further in connection with the SI papers leak.

What awaits us next?

The cancellation of the exam will likely necessitate a fresh start, requiring a review of current recruitment policies and procedures to prevent such incidents in the future. The government will take this decision in the coming days to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure accountability and fairness in the recruitment process.
