Hohenkirchen – The local heroes were also in the majority at the second performance class mixed tournament of the MTV Hohekirchen. Despite last-minute cancellations, tournament director and sports director Robert Meints managed to put together fairly evenly matched competition in the 30 and 50 age groups. Twelve doubles pairings had registered, eight of which belonged to the MTV tennis department at the facility on August-Hinrichs-Straße.

In the AK 30, Max Jagusch played alongside Nina Tjarks (at MTV) in his first ever tournament appearance. In the first match, she had no chance and lost 1:6, 1:6 against Kirsten Witte and Gregor Koch from Jade TG Wilhelmshaven. Things went differently in the second match against Marina Doyen and Torsten Riedel (FCN Hooksiel), which Jagusch/Tjarks won 6:4, 6:4 after many long rallies and 100 minutes of play.

Meanwhile, Witte and Koch also won their second encounter, which was an extremely hard-fought 6:4, 7:5 win in the club duel against Melanie Best/Carsten Biskupek.

The only three-set match of the tournament day was played by Karina and Harald Fischer (age 50/both MTV) against Frederike Bungenstock and Hans Schröder (both Jade TG). They prevailed in the match tiebreak with 6:2, 2:6 and 10:5. Anya Sick/Carsten Viehweger and Anke Reddel/Youssef El-Zein, all from TC Wittmund, each won two games in Wangerland.

“The event was very well attended all day. Many spectators came to the facility and were able to watch exciting games,” Meint concluded with great satisfaction: “After the last match, many participants, visitors and organizers sat together socially until late in the evening.”

This year’s tournament season at MTV Hohenkirchen has also come to an end. A mixed doubles tournament is also scheduled to take place next year. The date for this is Saturday, August 30, 2025. Before that, Meints will host a Father’s Day doubles tournament for men (May 29) and a women’s doubles tournament (June 26).
