Split in Tamil Nadu BJP over F4 event | News from Chennai

CHENNAI: The recently held F4 night tram Run in Chennai has a heated debate within Tamil Nadu BJP with the event that creates cracks between the young And long-serving officials in the Saffron Party.
While Seniors While the state government was criticised for organising the car race, the party’s younger members, such as Vinoj P. Selvam, state president of the BJP youth wing, and Alisha Abdulla, state secretary of the BJP sports cell, supported the race.
After witnessing the event, Vinoj shared his photo on X and said there was “high-octane energy” at the F4 race.
Alisha, a racer herself, went a step further and thanked the state government for organising the event. “I have attended many road races abroad and this one is on par with them,” said Alisha. The BJP functionary was spotted on the race track during the event.
While senior figures like H. Raja, chairman of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu coordination committee, criticised the state and said the election campaign was conducted for the sake of Sports Minister Udhayanidhi, Alisha expressed her appreciation for him and said, “Udhayanidhi has done a lot for the sports department after taking over as Sports Minister.”
Raja, however, dismissed suggestions of “discord” within the party. The party must focus on the burning issues in TN and not on “minor differences”, he told reporters at the BJP headquarters in Chennai, where a membership drive is underway.
The party leadership strongly opposed the event. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs L. Murugan questioned the venue of the race. “There is a lot of space outside Chennai, so why was the race held in the city and people inconvenienced?” asked Murugan.
Karu Nagarajan, BJP’s state vice president, asked why the race was allowed in the heart of the city. “We are not even allowed to put up party flags. How come permission was given for a race? We have Omandurar government hospital and ambulances had to come for emergencies but the road was also closed for emergency vehicles,” Nagarajan said.
Meanwhile, ANS Prasad, BJP spokesperson in Tamil Nadu, who filed a complaint in the Madras High Court against the F4 night tram race, said that the action of some party workers against the BJP’s stance was not good for the party’s growth.
