Explaining MultiVersus’ Pickle Rick Leaks

Explaining MultiVersus’ Pickle Rick Leaks

MultiVersus seems to be quite keen to have some fun with its roster choices, as shown by Player First Games’ decision to give the platform fighter Adventure TimeBanana Guard by . At the time, the choice of playable Banana Guard caused some controversy, but since then the character has been embraced by the community as a silly, light-hearted addition to the cast with plenty of humorous interactions.

And it seems like the selection of silly characters doesn’t end here. Reliable MultiVersus Leakers have provided evidence that the infamous Pickle Rick from the Rick and Morty Episode of the same name will be added to the game’s roster sooner rather than later. While the developers haven’t confirmed anything yet, there’s a lot to learn from the leaks, including some future, yet-to-be-announced additions to the roster.

Pickle Rick may be coming to MultiVersus

Will Pickle Rick be a skin for Rick in MultiVersus?

It is no secret that Rick Sanchez in MultiVersus since the beta, and most people would assume his Pickle form would just be a skin for the existing character. And that would be a perfectly reasonable assumption if a skin wasn’t nearly as fun as making Pickle Rick his own standalone fighter. Given the leaked files, that seems to be the case.

Until now, MultiVersus Characters have been tied to a numbered list in the code. All Pickle Rick-related files are tied to a unique, yet-to-be-released fighter on that list. If Pickle Rick were just a legendary skin for the current version of Rick in the game, one would assume that these files would be tied to Rick’s pre-existing code on the list. The player model for Pickle Rick is also scaled correctly; it’s proportional to a fighter like Gizmo rather than Rick’s normal size. Such a hitbox change would not be possible with a skin and would instead require an entirely new character slot.

In terms of handling the character, Pickle Rick appears to play very similarly to the version of the character currently in the game. A leaked gameplay video from before the beta ended shows a player controlling Pickle Rick with a moveset that is almost 1:1 to that of regular Rick, just on a much smaller scale.

It’s important to note that these are unreleased files from the developers. Early in development, Gizmo and Stripe were listed as the same fighter in the character roster. Development cycles often change, and PFG could redesign the leaked Pickle Rick fighter as a simple Rick skin.

Pickle Rick’s vocal lines leaked

While his character model is already a pretty damning leak, the voice lines that came out are on a whole other level. Pickle Rick’s leaked unique dialogue is uploaded in its entirety to YouTube for anyone to listen to for over ten full minutes. All of it was recorded for the game by Rick’s new voice actor, Ian Cardoni, with direct references to other characters currently in and out of the game.

Most notable about these interactions are Pickle Rick’s dialogues directed at the Powerpuff Girls, and RWBY‘s Ruby Rose. The reference to the Powerpuff Girls in the dialogue is not too surprising, as Townsville already has a stage in MultiVersus and other Cartoon Network alumni have already made it to the list. However, references to Ruby Rose are much more surprising, as this is the first appearance of a RWBY Character in MultiVersus.

It is not clear when exactly Pickle Rick will arrive MultiVersusif anything. Dataminers from the beta have discovered that Pickle Rick was a fairly finished character nearly two years ago. It could be that Player First Games is waiting for an opportune moment to release the character, or that the studio decided to turn the character into a skin instead. Whatever the case, it looks like players will soon be able to turn themselves into a pickle in the game. It will be the funniest thing they’ve ever seen.
