For the third year in a row, Scottie Scheffler started the Tour Championship on the inside and won the FedEx Cup. For the first time, he significantly extended his lead after 18 holes and held it for three rounds at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele were hot on Scheffler’s heels earlier in the weekend, but now only Morikawa is in hitting position as the final 18 holes begin on Sunday.

With a newly restored East Lake Golf Club and a hungry chasing group hot on his heels, the race of the entire season will not be handed to Scheffler, who blew a six-stroke lead in the fourth round of this 2022 event, losing to Rory McIlroy. Morikawa is five strokes behind Scheffler, with the former hoping for his first win of the season while the latter looks to cap off an all-time season that already includes a green jacket and an Olympic gold medal.

Schauffele, who has two major wins this season, St. Jude Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama and BMW Championship winner Keegan Bradley were the players closest to Scheffler at the start of the tournament, but Morikawa has made the most ground over the first 54 holes. McIlroy, Sahith Theegala, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns and Adam Scott are all others chasing money on Sunday, but none of them are anywhere near striking distance of the world’s No. 1 golfer.
