Jack Butland criticises Kyogo’s ‘horrific’ goalkeeping goal

Jack Butland criticises Kyogo’s ‘horrific’ goalkeeping goal

The England international was responsible for two of the three goals scored by Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Daizen Maeda’s first goal appeared to go straight through the £12 million goalkeeper, while Kyogo’s second goal came from a poor position.

While Butland was unable to stop the third goal after an unstoppable deflected shot from Callum McGregor, fans vented their anger at the goalkeeper’s performance on social media platform X.

One fan commented on the picture at the beginning of this article and said: “I’m not a goalkeeping coach. But this is terrible.”

Another said: “It’s easy to step on the toes of certain players. People like Dessers etc, which I did. But no matter who you are, if you’re poor you deserve the criticism. Jack Butland was awful.”

One added: “Jack Butland has been absolutely awful since he was not called up for the England team.”

Butland had previously told Rangers TV that he was disgusted by the result after his good start to the game had given his team hope of an unlikely result.

He said: “It’s sickening to be honest. We started the game well, created some good early chances and showed enough confidence on the ball to create things. But we didn’t score an early goal that would have given us anything here.”

“When you miss chances in situations that we had under control, they take them and we try to find a way back into the game. That hurts and we are all disappointed, personally I am the most disappointed. We have a few weeks now to think about it, which will not be easy, but we have to get back on the field to win and learn from today.

“I don’t want it to be too well known because, frankly, it drives me mad because I know what we’re capable of. There’s enough in this squad to get results but we’re not giving ourselves the best opportunities to do so. That’s on all of us so we need to look at that and improve from that. I’m sure the fans are as frustrated as we are.”
