Rhein Fire advances effortlessly against Madrid

Rhein Fire advances effortlessly against Madrid

Unlike the thriller Paris against Munich, the second wild card game offered little to no excitement. Düsseldorf dominated from the start, winning in the end with 40:10 and will face the Surge in the semifinals in Stuttgart on September 8th.

This means that Paris is also confirmed as the semifinal winner of the Vienna Vikings on September 7th in the Generali Arena. Even before the opponent was announced, the Viennese had sold over 5,000 tickets for the playoff.

The game:

Düsseldorf’s record man in terms of touchdowns, Glen Toongaopened the scoring with a run in the first drive to 7:0 (KNOCK Sebastian Van Santen). On the other side, a fake punt went wrong. Madrid bypassed the second touchdown (Harlan Kwofie) and was able to slowly put his original game plan to rest. Madrid slowly came towards the Düsseldorf end zone and was able to score at least three points after a field goal from Guitian Vizoso on the scoreboard. The first success was followed by a second one, the Spaniards were able to force a turnover, but were unable to score any more points. Vizoso’s field goal attempt missed the Uprights. On the other side, something also went past – namely Toonga past the Bravos’ defense to 20:3 (PAT blocked).

After the first half, Madrid also scored its first touchdown. D´wayne Obi completed a long drive that made his 20:10 away.

But the Rhinelanders immediately restored the old gap. Harlan Kwofieusually one step faster than the Madrilenians, ran past their defense to 27:10.

The tone continues. The Rhein Fire defense stopped the visitors’ attack, the offense worked its magic. After a big play by Kwofie, it was Kwofie who scored his third touchdown to 34:7He finished the first half with 7 catches for 174 yards and 3 TDs. The tension was already gone before the break, and the atmosphere in the surprisingly poorly attended Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena was suitable for the ZDF Fernsehgarten.

After the restart, Kwofie added a fourth touchdown, and there was no sign of a comeback from the Spaniards. In this respect, the league, which announced the semi-final pairings this morning, was right: Madrid had no chance. However, the pertinent advice to the Spaniards was not friendly.

The rest of the time passes quickly and without highlights. Madrid could not give more, Düsseldorf did not have to show more and will probably make up for it next Sunday in Stuttgart.
