The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into the death of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Abdulwaheed Ayilara, who died during an operation at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

In a statement addressed to journalists, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced that a panel headed by Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, would investigate the clinical circumstances that led to Ayilara’s death and a comprehensive report was expected within seven days.

“We share the sadness and understand the fear this news may have caused. The Lagos State Government is determined to ensure a thorough investigation,” Abayomi said.

The announcement came just two days after Ayilara, who was pronounced dead at LASUTH, was buried at Abari Cemetery, Lagos Island. Governor Sanwo-Olu conveyed his deep condolences to Ayilara’s family, the police and the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.

“The death of Ayilara has left us deeply shocked and saddened.
