Tennis – Now it starts at the NÖ Open in Tulln

The big tennis festival in Tulln can begin! Six local professionals will start in the qualification on Sunday, and six more are already waiting in the main competition of the NÖ Open powered by EVN to reach their full potential in front of a home crowd starting Monday.

Tournament director Florian Leitgeb and ÖTV sports director Jürgen Melzer have set out to create an additional stage for Austrian professionals – established but especially up-and-coming ones – with the NÖ Open powered by EVN in 2021. A spirit that Mann has remained true to at the fourth edition of the ATP 100 Challenger in the garden city of Tulln.

The Austro-aces in the main competition

In addition to Filip Misolic, Dennis Novak and Lukas Neumayer, who qualified via their ATP rankings, the wildcard players Joel Schwärzler, Sandro Kopp and Neil Oberleitner are also guaranteed places in the main competition. Schwärzler (ATP No. 375), who is only 18 years old, is receiving this honour in recognition of his success as former No. 1 in the junior world rankings and his first Challenger title in Skopje in the spring. Sandro Kopp (ATP No. 339) and Neil Oberleitner (ATP No. 475) were awarded their starting places by the tournament management and the ÖTV in particular for their consistently good performances on the ITF tour.

Gerald Melzer has to go through the qualification mill

The red-white-red sextet could get it from the qualification played from Sunday 10 a.m., which the 18-year-old Sebastian Sorger, Gregor Ramskogler, Matthias Ujvary and Jan Kobierski also attack with wildcards, as well as the experienced Maximilian Neuchrist (with protected ranking) and Gerald Melzer (Deutsch-Wagram).

However, the challenges are all quite challenging. Max Neuchchrist will be playing against the number 1 of the qualifying tournament, the Russian Ivan Gakhov, and Gregor Ramskogler against the number 2, Mohamed Safwat from Egypt. But who will the men seeded in the main draw of the tennis festival be playing against on the courts of the TC Tulln in the middle of SPORTLAND Lower Austria?

This is how the main competition starts

As defending champion and number 1, the 27-year-old Czech Vit Kopriva (ATP No. 118) will face the Briton Jan Choinski (ATP No. 276), and the Tulln number 2, the highly talented Swiss Jerome Kym (ATP No. 180), will face the Dutchman Max Houkes (ATPN No. 297).

What awaits the Austrians? The fifth seed, Filip Misolic (ATP No. 224), will be served a qualifier in round 1, just like Joel Schwärzler. The Tyrolean Sandro Kopp (ATP No. 339) will face Lukas Neumayer (ATP No. 320) from Salzburg in the “West Derby” and the recently turned 31 Lower Austrian Dennis Novak (ATP No. 238) will face the German Daniel Masur (ATP No. 236). And Neil Oberleitner will face Jakub Nicod (ATP No. 337), the Czech who the Viennese recently defeated in the final of the ITF event in Ollersbach.
