Murder investigation launched after man stabbed to death in East London

Police were called to an incident on Romford Road, Forest Gate, near the junction with Woodgrange Road, on August 10.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and found 38-year-old Saley Beya with stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but died on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said.

On Sunday, police said a 28-year-old man had appeared in court and was charged with grievous bodily harm under Section 18. They would work with the public prosecutor to change the charges.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the investigation and said: “We continue to need people with information to come forward and tell us what they know about this tragic incident.”

“Our investigations have shown that there was a lot of traffic on Romford Road, including two buses, and people would have seen these events unfold. In addition, a car had to stop on the road when the attack took place.

“I urge anyone who saw this incident or who took pictures or footage of the attack to come forward immediately.”

Hamza Shahmonhiran Kamali, 28, of Henniker Road, E15, appeared before Stratford Magistrates’ Court on August 19 charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody and will appear again at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 16 September.
