Alien Invasion

On July 2, 1996, an alien spaceship flies to Earth and sends out several flying saucers that position themselves over various major cities around the world. Satellite technician David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) decodes an alien transmission, which turns out to be a countdown to a coordinated attack.

When David warned the incumbent US President Thomas Whitmore (Bill Pullman) and he tried to get the cities to evacuate, the saucers started their fire and reduced several major cities around the world to rubble, including Washington DC, New York and Los Angeles.

While the President’s group flies to Area 51, US fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) is in an aerial battle with the aliens and is able to bring one of them to the ground. He also goes with the alien to Area 51, where the President wants to coordinate a counterattack.

From the “Master of Disaster”

“Independence Day” is one of the most influential films in the “disaster film” genre. In addition to “Independence Day,” German director Roland Emmerich has earned the title of “Master of Disaster” through films such as “Godzilla,” “The Day after Tomorrow,” “2012: The End of the World,” and “Moonfall.”

The film won the Oscar for Best Visual Special Effects and was praised by critics for its spectacle, although often under the pretext that perhaps one shouldn’t think too much about the plot.
