  • Jannik Sinner (ATP 1) confidently solves the task in the 3rd round against Christopher O’Connell (ATP 87) in 3 sets.
  • Alcaraz conqueror Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 74) remains without a chance against Jack Draper (ATP 25).

Unlike Novak Djokovic (ATP 2) and Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 3), who sensationally were eliminated in the first week of the US Open, Jannik Sinner remained safe in his third appearance in New York. Christopher O’Connell was no yardstick for the world number 1 in round 3. Sinner dominated the party from the first rally onwards and at no point did he allow any doubts to flare up about his progress.

In the first and third rounds, the favorite broke the underdog’s serve twice each, and in the second round, Sinner only needed one break to make the difference. The South Tyrolean himself did not have a single break chance. After 1:53 hours, Sinner converted his first match point with a volley winner to make it 6:1, 6:4, 6:2. In the round of 16, Sinner will face the Canadian surprise man Gabriel Diallo (ATP 143) or the American Tommy Paul (ATP 14).

Run by Van de Zandschulp past

Botic van de Zandschulp shocked the tennis world with his three-set victory against Carlos Alcaraz in the second round. However, the Dutchman failed to pull off another coup. In the third round, the world number 74 was unable to do anything against Jack Draper. Van de Zandschulp had to admit defeat to the Briton with a clear score of 3:6, 4:6, 2:6. This means that the 22-year-old Draper is in the US Open round of 16 for the second time in a row. There he will face Tomas Machac (CZE/ATP 39).
