Deadlock: Possible release, access, gameplay and more

Here is all the information we already know about Deadlock.

There have been leaks and rumors for a while now about a new game from Half-Life and Portal maker Valve called Deadlock. Many fans have even been able to try out the title. In August 2024, the developer finally confirmed the existence of the game.

Here we summarize what we already know about the hero shooter and how you can play it yourself. You can jump to the most important points here:

Release: When will Deadlock be released?

There is no concrete statement from Valve on this yet. The game’s product page only states that Deadlock in an “early stage of development” and still contains many temporary graphics and experimental gameplay.

A possible release of Deadlock cannot yet be really estimated. At least we know that the game is already in a playable state, even if the visuals still look a bit rudimentary.

This is not only shown by the gameplay of other playtesters on YouTube, we have also already been able to play it. We expect that Deadlock will need at least a few more months of fine-tuning.

Platforms: Is Deadlock coming to PS5 and Xbox Series?

Here, too, we can only speculate; Valve has not yet confirmed any platforms other than PC. However, since some of the developer’s games, such as Counter-Strike 2, are Steam exclusive, this could also be the case with Deadlock. Here, too, we will have to wait and see.

Playtest: How do I get access to Deadlock?

There is currently no way to actively sign up for the Deadlock playtest. You can currently only get access in two ways:

  • You have been selected as a playtester by Valve
  • You will receive an invitation from friends who are playtesters

Accordingly, access to the game is currently a matter of luck. It is quite conceivable that there will be an open beta at a later date, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Gameplay: How to play Deadlock?

Deadlock is essentially a hero shooter in which two teams of six players compete against each other. There are also a few MOBA elements in which you simultaneously lead a squad of NPC characters to destroy the enemy’s defenses.

You choose a hero character with special abilities from a roster. By leveling up, you also unlock new abilities and perks.

The game is also supposed to offer a lot of freedom of movement, so there are double jumps, air dashes and ziplines that you can use to move around. (via The Verge)

The selection of your hero or heroine works a little differently here than in many other shooters. You create a squad consisting of at least three characters. You are then automatically assigned one of these characters in the game when the round starts.

They can also assign their heroes a higher priority level to increase your chances of getting that character.

What do you think of Deadlock so far? Have you been able to play it yet or would you like to?
