Firefighter dies during preparation work for celebration

LICHTENWÖRTH. There is deep sadness and shock in the Lower Austrian market town of Lichtenwörth: A member of the Lichtenwörth volunteer fire department was killed in an accident on Friday, August 30, during the setup work for a planned anniversary celebration.

According to media reports, the experienced firefighter fell from a ladder while making preparations for the fire brigade festival and the community’s 850th anniversary celebrations. Despite immediate rescue efforts, he could not be helped.

Community expresses deep concern

News of the tragic accident spread quickly throughout the community. In a joint statement, the Lichtenwörth Volunteer Fire Department and the market town announced: “Due to a sad and completely unexpected death, we unfortunately have to inform you that the planned 850th anniversary celebration and the fire department festival have been cancelled. We ask for your understanding in this difficult time and thank you for your sympathy.” Mayor Manuel Zusag expressed his shock at the accident on Facebook: “We can’t believe it and are in shock. My sympathy goes out to the relatives in these difficult times.”

Crisis meeting and cancellation of celebrations

Immediately after the incident, an emergency meeting was called and it was decided to cancel all celebrations planned for the weekend. The 850th anniversary celebration, which was supposed to be a big party with lots of music and a parade of all the clubs, as well as the fire brigade festival will not take place out of respect for the deceased fireman.
