Borussia Mönchengladbach lets Manu Koné move to AS Roma

Borussia Mönchengladbach has sold midfielder Manu Koné to Italian first division club AS Roma shortly before the end of the transfer period.

According to Italian media reports, Borussia will receive 20 million euros for the 23-year-old, who was nominated for the French national team for the first time on Thursday.

Roma wrote of a loan deal with an option to buy, while Gladbach wrote of one of the “most financially lucrative transfers in the club’s history to date.” Koné had “shown what an outstanding player he is, not only with us but also recently at the Olympic Games. And even though we don’t like to lose such quality, this transfer is symbolic of our path,” said Roland Virkus, Borussia’s sporting director.

Gladbach had already rested Koné in the Bundesliga opener against Bayer Leverkusen (2:3) “due to a possible impending transfer”. The Olympic participant moved from FC Toulouse to the Lower Rhine in 2021 at the age of 20 and scored four goals in 79 Bundesliga games.
