Nettetal has a poor home record against St. Tönis

Union Nettetal has a derby match ahead of them this weekend. On Sunday at 3:15 p.m., Andreas Schwan’s team will host SC St. Tönis, who are currently top of the Oberliga table with two wins from two games.

The quality of the St. Tönis team is undisputed. However, the last encounter was not long ago: At the Brüggen Castle Cup in preparation, Nettetal won 2:1.

In terms of personnel, the St. Tönis team significantly strengthened their squad in the summer: Tyler Nkamanyi (FSV Duisburg), Julio Torrens (FC Wegberg-Beeck), Malik Timmerberg (RW Frankfurt), Philipp Baum (Ratingen 04/19), Jan Fauseweh (SF Hamborn 07), Besim Fazlija (Mülheimer FC) and Ilias Bouassaria (SC West) have strengthened the squad.

Coach Bekim Kastrati’s team has enormous quality, especially in attack. The team from the apple town has already scored eight goals in the first two games: a 5-1 win at FC Büderich was followed by a 3-1 victory at home against Sportfreunde Niederwenigern. “We already saw how strong St. Tönis is at the Burgpokal. It was a very close match and a duel on equal terms. We are therefore preparing ourselves for a strong opponent who will challenge us to the maximum. “For us, this game is the next benchmark,” said coach Andreas Schwan.

The Nettetal team is considered to be extremely strong at home. On the first match day, they beat top favorites TSV Meerbusch 2-1. Against St. Tönis, however, the Nettetal team lacked their home strength of recent years: In the Oberliga, Nettetal has not yet picked up a point in a home game against St. Tönis. In the previous season, they suffered a 1-3 defeat at home, with ex-Nettetal player Morten Heffungs scoring the opening goal. In the two previous seasons, Union lost 0-1 at home.

On the other hand, the Nettetal team usually prevails, especially in St. Tönis. In the previous season, it was a 3-2 away win in a thrilling and extremely emotional party. In the 2021/22 season, it was even a 4-1 win. “We have always shown good and convincing performances in St. Tönis and at the same time always scored a lot of goals.” “Unfortunately, we have not managed to do that at home so far,” says Schwan.

“We started the season with a home win against Meerbusch and want to build on that in our second home game.” The fact that the current league leaders, St. Tönis, are coming to us is actually even more motivating. “We are really looking forward to this derby,” Schwan continued. If you refer to the Kempen-Krefeld football district in purely geographical terms, the game against Meerbusch also counts as a derby. Perhaps a good omen for Nettetal.

In terms of personnel, Leonard Lekaj and Niklas Götte are unavailable for personal reasons. The Japanese Shoei Honda, Jesse Probst and Jan Pöhler are also still out due to injury. Justin Coenen is also suspended for a red card. The starting line-up will therefore change in at least two positions compared to last week.
