With the third beta version of iOS 18.1, which Apple made available for download last Wednesday, Cupertino has integrated another Apple Intelligence feature into its next major operating system update.

Under the heading “Summarize Notification Previews,” the beta system now summarizes the contents of notifications and no longer focuses only on pre-installed factory applications such as Mail or Apple’s messaging app, but applies the intelligent abbreviations to the notifications of all installed applications.

Configurable as desired

The new feature makes it possible to extract essential information from a group of notifications and present it in a compact format. This should enable users to see at a glance whether there is potentially important information waiting in the stack of newly received notifications, without having to open and query each individual message.

After installing the latest beta of iOS 18.1, a new info window guides you through the initial setup, shortening Apple’s well-known “Crazy Ones” text.

In the settings of the new function, you can specify whether all notifications should be summarized or whether the new function should only be applied to selected messages.

Notification summaries will appear on the lock screen and are subject to the availability of Apple’s new AI features. This means: Initially, notification summaries will only be available outside the European Union and only on an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

In addition to the new notification summaries, Apple has also provided the magical photo eraser “Clean Up” in the current beta version of iOS 18.1. ifun.de reported:
