Kangana Ranaut announces that censor board approval for ‘Emergency’ is on hold

New Delhi [India]August 30 (ANI): Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has revealed that her much-awaited political drama ‘Emergency’ is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film, which deals with the turbulent tenure of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, encountered unexpected obstacles due to its sensitive subject matter, Kangana revealed in a social media post.

Although earlier reports suggested that Emergency had received clearance from the CBFC, Kangana revealed that the film’s certification is currently on hold.

“There were rumours doing the rounds that my film Emergency had been certified by the censor board. This is not true. Though our film had received clearance from the CBFC, the certification was put on hold due to numerous death threats against members of the censor board,” Kangana said.

Kangana expressed her frustration over the situation and highlighted the pressure the filmmakers are under.

She continued: “This put pressure on us not to show the assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Bhindrawale and the riots in Punjab in the film. This raises the question: what can we actually show in the film? That the film suddenly fades out.” “This is an incredible time for me and I deeply regret the situation in this country,” she added.

The complex dynamics surrounding the film’s content address politically sensitive issues that have sparked considerable debate.

A project entirely directed by Kangana Ranaut, Emergency features a star cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.

The film is set during the 1975 state of emergency in the country and Ranaut plays the lead role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Recently, the makers made the audience curious with the official trailer.

The trailer shows young Indira’s bond with her father, the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, as she entered politics, and then shows how she dealt with conflict, political turmoil and other issues throughout her long career.

He also gives insights into the various issues that the film addresses, including the Emergency period, the Shimla Accord, the rise of the Khalistan movement and JP Andolan, among others.

Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film is set against the backdrop of one of India’s most turbulent political periods and promises to be a depiction of historical events.

With screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah and music by Sanchit Balhara, ‘Emergency’ aims to captivate audiences with its portrayal of a significant chapter in India’s political history. (ANI)
