It has now been well over three years since “The Notorious” last stepped into the cage for his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier, and after breaking his ankle in that fight, myriad factors prevented the former two-division champion from returning to action.

A planned return against Michael Chandler as the main event of UFC 303 was scrapped due to McGregor’s broken toe, and in the aftermath even White admitted that the Irishman’s chances of competing this year seemed slim until the UFC CEO recently hinted that he would have fight news from him soon.

“The Notorious” seemed to be at odds with the UFC over his return after withdrawing from UFC 303, but following White’s comments during an Instagram livestream, McGregor simply shared an emoji that will no doubt have fans clamoring for a concrete fight announcement.

The final two UFC PPV events of the year (309 and 310) currently have no main events, but with Jon Jones expected to finally face Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden at UFC 309, some fans are already speculating that UFC 310 on December 7 could be the perfect opportunity for McGregor’s return.

It’s still an open question who the former two-division champion will step into the Octagon with after Chandler waited so long to face him, but if McGregor does indeed return before 2025, this will undoubtedly be one of the biggest combat sports spectacles of the year.
