Des Moines police search for suspect in shooting at homeless camp

Des Moines police asked the public Thursday to be on the lookout for a man wanted in connection with a shooting that left a woman hospitalized.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 50-year-old Chad “Stormy” Luesebrink on attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a 45-year-old woman on Monday, Des Moines police said in a social media post.

The incident occurred at a homeless encampment near the 1600 block of Southeast Harriet Street, police said. The victim has since undergone surgery and is expected to recover.

Lüsebrink is known for the frequent presence of homeless camps near the river and the city center.

He is 1.75 m tall and weighs 79 kg, police said.

Police are asking the public not to approach Luesebrink as he may be armed. Anyone with information on Luesebrink’s whereabouts should call 911.
