Lincoln National Forest placed at low fire danger level — Ruidoso-NM.gov

29 August 2024 – Effective immediately, the Lincoln National Forest has downgraded the fire danger in all three counties to “low.”

The downgrade of the fire hazard class and the lifting of fire restrictions were made following analyses and indicators of the humidity level in the area as well as extended weather forecasts for the area and the region.

Following the South Fork Fire, some areas in the Smokey Bear Ranger District are still closed. For current closure information, visit the warnings page on our website: Lincoln National Forest Warnings and Closures (usda.gov).

As we approach Labor Day weekend, it’s important to follow good safety practices when camping or recreating in Lincoln National Forest. Make sure your campfires are completely out and cool to the touch before heading out so they don’t reignite.

Be aware of weather conditions as flash flooding can occur quickly in areas around burn scars from recent wildfires. As always, follow our Leave No Trace policy and take all trash and litter with you.

All offices in the Lincoln National Forest will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024, for Labor Day. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3.
