Daily state news

DOVER – A 56-year-old New Jersey man was arrested in a theft investigation that began early Wednesday, Dover police spokesman Ryan Schmid said.

Authorities said Dover police were notified at 9 a.m. that a suspected fraudulent withdrawal of more than $170,000 from a personal account was scheduled for 11 a.m. at Citizen’s Bank, 799 North DuPont Highway.

Further investigation, Cpl. Schmid said, revealed that on August 19, over $100,000 was withdrawn from the person’s account and transferred to another account by someone using a false ID. The suspect was described as a white male with gray hair and a slim build, police said.

Cpl. Schmid said detectives set up surveillance in the area and at 3:05 p.m., a suspect matching the description entered the bank and attempted to withdraw money. The suspect, later identified as Robert Nuccio of Spottswood, was arrested without incident, police said.

According to police, Mr. Nuccio gave a false name when he was arrested.

Mr. Nuccio was charged with theft over $100,000 with a victim 52 years of age or older, attempted theft over $100,000 with a victim 62 years of age or older, identity theft, third degree forgery and criminal impersonation. He was remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $132,000 bail.
