Tim Henman is on Sky Sports and says he has spoken to Dan Evans. Evans appears to be in better shape than expected after his marathon on Tuesday and spent yesterday relaxing his sore legs with an ice bath, a massage and some exercise on an exercise bike.

The Brit is scheduled to play fourth on Court Five today, so that at least gives him a little more time to recover. And he will be relieved that yesterday’s extreme heat has given way to much more player-friendly conditions, with highs of 25 degrees forecast. Frances Tiafoe said he brought 20 shirts and three pairs of shoes onto the court yesterday because he was sweating so much; I don’t think anyone will need such drastic measures today.

preamble

Hello! And welcome to our coverage of day four of the US Open. Two days after Dan Evans somehow dragged himself over the finish line in the longest match in US Open history, he’s back for more, although he’ll hope to take less than five hours and 35 minutes this time when he faces Argentina’s Mariano Navone in the second round.

Evans is fourth on Court Five, where the British action takes place today. Before him, Katie Boulter plays Jessica Bouzas Maneiro – the Spaniard who beat defending champion Marketa Vondrousova at Wimbledon this summer – and then Jack Draper, like Evans, faces an Argentinian opponent in Facundo Diaz Acosta.

At Arthur Ashe, the day’s session features top seeds Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek; at Louis Armstrong, it’s Sebastian Korda, Jasmine Paolini and the all-American battle between Emma Raducanu’s conqueror Sofia Kenin and Jessica Pegula; and we’ll also be keeping an eye on Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva, Alex de Minaur, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Tommy Paul and Jordan Thompson against Hubert Hurkacz, among many, many others.

The game starts at: It’s 11am New York time (4pm UK time), so there’s no time to waste! Let’s get started.
