Chiefs released 2023 draft pick CB Nic Jones on Wednesday

The Kansas City Chiefs’ initial decisions for the 53-man roster have not yet been made as management continues to make adjustments.

According to the team’s transaction log, Kansas City has released cornerback Nic Jones. The 2023 seventh-round draft pick became expendable after Disclaimer from defensive back Eric Scott.

Jones played in nine games in his only season with the Chiefs, collecting four tackles. He was one of many young defensive backs competing for the few spots in the secondary. The Ball State star showed signs of promise in training camp last year, but didn’t translate immediately during his limited time on the field.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound cornerback was selected 250th overall because of his excellent ball skills and versatility, playing both inside and outside of defense. He also stood out as a strong player on special teams and caught the attention of Kansas City.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach was able to keep several players released in the last 24 hours on the practice squad, and there will continue to be movement as the team looks to top-line personnel ahead of Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.
