Caitlin Clark breaks WNBA three-point record in Indiana’s win over Connecticut

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continued her stellar debut season in the WNBA by breaking another rookie record on Wednesday against the Connecticut Sun.

The 22-year-old led the Fever to an 84-80 win over Connecticut, scoring 19 points that night.

Clark’s haul included her 86th three-pointer in her first WNBA season, breaking the rookie record set by Rhyne Howard with the Atlanta Dream in 2022.

While Howard reached her record of 85 three-pointers in a 34-game regular season, Clark made her 86th in her 31st game.

This is the latest in a growing number of record-breaking performances by Clark during her first season in the WNBA.

Clark leads the WNBA in three-point shots this season and increased her total to 88 in the win over Connecticut.

She has already set a rookie record (224) for assists in a season and has more assists and more turnovers than any other player in the league this season.

Clark was drafted by the Fever with the first pick in 2024 after breaking several records during her college years at the University of Iowa.

Clark broke a 54-year-old record set by Pete Maravich in 2023, becoming the all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s college basketball with 3,951 points.

During her college years, she averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists and contributed to the popularity of women’s basketball.

Nearly 19 million people tuned in to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes, Clark’s college team, make their way to the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association final.
