Community honors victims of Tempe mobile home fire

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) – People at a Tempe trailer park near Baseline and Kyrene roads remembered four people found dead after a fire on Wednesday.

More than 100 people gathered for a candlelight vigil to remember and honor the four deceased members of the Ruiz family.

There is a growing memorial on the grounds with stuffed animals and baby dolls to commemorate the two little girls who lost their lives.

“We are still in shock and hope this is not true,” said Synthia Ruiz at the vigil. “We ask everyone to think of our family and pray for Valerie’s recovery.”

The fire broke out late Sunday evening in the Ruiz family’s mobile home.

Large flames were visible on a neighbor’s Ring camera and the fire was spreading quickly.

The victims were identified as follows:

  • Monica Ruiz, 51
  • Enrique Ruiz Jr., 25
  • Ariareli Ruiz, 3
  • Ellany Ruiz, 18 months

Monica and Ariareli died at the scene of the accident, while Enrique and Ellany died in the hospital.

The condition of the young girls’ mother, Valerie Magana Gonzalez, remains critical.

Tempe fire officials were asked for updates on the investigation but were unable to provide any new information.
