Wild Things sets franchise record with 64th win

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Andrew Czech hit a home run and scored three runs and the Wild Things picked up a 6-3 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Wednesday night at Ozinga Field.

With this win, Washington’s record improves to 64-27. The 64 wins are a franchise record for a single season. The Wild Things won 63 games in 2005.

Washington has a 35-11 record in away games.

The Wild Things trailed 3-2 at the start of the eighth inning, but scored four times to take the lead.

Czech hit a two-run home run, his 16th of the year, early in the second inning to give Washington an early 2-0 lead.

Windy City tied the game with a two-run fourth against Washington starter Kobe Foster. The second run of the inning was scored on a balk.

Foster pitched six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out five batters for a franchise-record 126 strikeouts on the season. Ben Ally struck out 124 batters in 2003.

Windy City took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning against reliever Alex Carrillo (3-1). Michael Seegers’ RBI single with two outs brought home Ronnie Allen.

Washington then scored four times in the eighth inning against two Windy City relief pitchers. Cam McNeely, Tyreque Reed and Wagner Lagrange each hit RBI doubles and Czech added a single that brought in Lagrange with the final run of the game.

Gyeongju Kim struck out all three batters facing him in the ninth inning, earning his 26th save and leading the league.
