Doorbell camera provides police video of violence outside a man’s house

Families in west Charlotte said they assumed Royston Road was safe.

However, one homeowner reported that there were outbreaks of violence on his street in August, which were captured on video from the doorbell.

1 dead and 3 injured in shooting in East Charlotte, reports CMPD

“It looked like one of those TV shows I watch,” said the man, who asked not to be identified. “It’s just crazy, you know, that something like that would happen in front of your house.”

He said he had to act after his car was broken into last year.

“I set up the floodlight ring camera and everything has been going well since then,” he said.

On August 7, police received video footage from this camera of a fight on the street in front of his house during which gunshots were fired.

At around 10 p.m., several women were shouting at each other, then two of them got into a fight.

A woman shouted “Watch out!” and then someone standing in the street fired at a car that was driving away, police reported.

A bullet pierced the back seat of this Nissan Altima during departure, police said.

Police arrested Taylor Richardson and charged her with discharging a weapon into an inhabited property and assault with a deadly weapon.

“I’m feeling much better,” said the man. “I’m really glad that the perpetrators are no longer on the streets.”
