Expansion of Lynnwood Link light rail to begin on Friday, expects nearly 50,000 passengers

Everything is going according to plan for the long-awaited opening of the Lynnwood extension of Sound Transit’s Link light rail line.

Sound Transit expects the four-station expansion, which begins service Friday morning, to attract about 50,000 riders and provide a 32-minute commute from Lynnwood to downtown Seattle.

“It’s sleek and new and an exciting option for people and a better alternative to get to their destination,” passenger Curt Warner told KOMO News.

The expansion will add two light rail stations in Shoreline, one at I-5 and 148th Street and another at 185th Street, as well as a station in Mountlake Terrace and the new terminus in Lynnwood.

Sound Transit management and community leaders joined the media for a preview drive of the extension Wednesday morning.

According to Sound Transit, the service will run every eight to ten minutes during peak hours.

There will be a ceremonial opening at the station on Friday at 11:00 a.m. From then on, people will start boarding the trains.
