BLANDINI Videos by Eric Hutcheson uploaded a multi-camera video by ANTHRAX Singer Joey Belladonna Carrying out the RAINBOW classic “The Man on the Silver Mountain” with his tribute band Ronnie James Dio on August 18th at the Conduit in Orlando, Florida. The new group, in which Belladonna is accompanied by Michael Rivera on the guitar, Robert Stokes on bass and Jim McCourt on drums, plays music by DIO, BLACK SABBATH And RAINBOWCheck out the clip, along with the previously released video from Belladonna Carrying out the DIO classic “Holy Diver”below.

A decade ago Belladonna spoke with Jay Nanda the San Antonio Metal Music Examiner about the ANTHRAX Frontman’s involvement in “This is your life”the tribute to the album Ronnie James DioAsked why ANTHRAX decided on a cover version of the BLACK SABBATH classic “Neon Knight”, Belladonna said: “I think I suggested it. When we talked about doing something together, we all liked the song, so it was a no-brainer. We could pretty much pick anything… I went for the harder one.”

When asked whether the recording “Neon Knight” Cover was a more emotional experience than some of the other cover versions ANTHRAX over the years, Belladonna said: “Not for me. I just love doing that kind of stuff and it was another day for me to sing something from him. Of course I’m excited because it’s a record but I don’t think I did it any differently. In fact, I only did a couple of takes. I mean, I actually have a video of my first attempt and it sounds pretty much exactly how it sounds. For me, it was business as usual.”

In terms of what Ronnie meant for him, Joey said: “Ronnieis an inspirational singer to me.” He added: “I really believe that as you grow up, you get inspired by the people who perform and things that you would like to hear yourself. You fall into that category and have the talent that he has and you just get inspired. [He was a] great human being, great musician – all of that… He was just the smoothest. He was so tough but melodic, just like his attitude to everything. He had great charisma.”

Belladonna also talked about the first impression Ronnie on him. “He really made me laugh,” Joey said. “He just wants[ed] to be funny. And yet he [was] so sincere and [could] have that serious point of view. You have to be captivated by it when you’re around him, for him to speak to you with that attitude and that guts that he had. And I was around him when things weren’t going so well, which I won’t mention now, but he shared with me what was more private, about being in his band – things like that. Just to engage with me and go through it with me.”

Belladonnawhose recent return to ANTHRAX was officially announced in May 2010, was originally the lead singer of ANTHRAX from 1984 to 1992 and was considered part of the classic line-up of the influential thrash metal group (alongside guitarists Dan Spitz And MichaelBassist Frank Bello and drummer Charlie Benante), who reunited and toured in 2005 and 2006. His voice has been featured on over 10 albums, which reportedly sold eight million copies worldwide.
