Local State Farm representative works with fire department to provide educational materials

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WCYB) — Local authorities are preparing for Fire Prevention Week.

The aim is to educate the population about fire protection and fire prevention.

The Kingsport Fire Department encourages teachers and community members to contact the fire department to schedule tours of the fire station, fire safety presentations and visits to Sparky the Dog dog training school in advance of Fire Prevention Week.

In the meantime, local State Farm representative Tyla Laughlin is working with the Kingsport Fire Department to ensure there are enough supplies for visiting children.

We were excited today. Tyla Laughlin State Farm gave us a fire prevention kit for Fire Prevention Week with coloring pages, stickers, magnets, and all kinds of materials for the kids, said Education and Information Officer Barry Brickey.

Fire Safety Week takes place from October 6th to 12th. This year’s theme is smoke detectors. Use them to your advantage!
