Laurent Brossoit of the Blackhawks undergoes surgery and misses the start of training

CHICAGO – Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit will miss the start of training camp as he recovers from surgery on his right knee.

Brossoit underwent meniscus surgery in Chicago on Tuesday. Team doctor Michael Terry said Wednesday that Brossoit is expected to return in five to seven weeks.

The Blackhawks’ training camp begins in mid-September. On October 8th they will visit Utah for the season opener.

Brossoit, 31, signed a two-year, $3.3 million salary-cap deal with Chicago on July 1 to partner Petr Mrazek in goal this season.

Brossoit played 23 games for Winnipeg last season, posting a 15-5-2 record, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. He also played one game with the Jets during the playoffs.

Brossoit, a sixth-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, has a 64-46-13 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 140 career games. He has also played for Edmonton and Vegas.
