Float-a-Palooza, Chesnee Fest, Hot Air Affair, more

Labor Day celebrates and recognizes the achievements and contributions of American workers. It also marks the unofficial end of summer and is often associated with parades, barbecues, and other festivities.

Many people also use the long weekend to relax and spend time with family and friends. The Upstate offers a variety of Labor Day events, including festivals, hot air balloon activities, car shows and fireworks.

Here is a list of Labor Day events you can attend in Upstate.

Float-a-Palooza on Labor Day

From August 31 through Monday, September 2, you can visit Saluda Lake Landing at 605 Motor Boat Club Road in Greenville for a special Labor Day Float-a-Palooza event.

Event times include Saturday, August 31, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, September 1, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Monday, September 2, from noon to 8 p.m.

General admission tickets are $15 and include event access, a hot dog and a soft drink. For those looking for a more active experience, subway tickets are available for $25 and include event access, a hot dog, a soft drink and a souvenir subway to swim in. There will also be live music and a DJ throughout the weekend.

Craft Axe Throwing

Craft Axe Throwing on Hampton Avenue in Greenville is hosting a Labor Day event on Monday, September 2nd from 1-7pm. Attendees can enjoy axe throwing sessions, craft beers, and multiple TVs throughout the venue. Be sure to book your axe throwing reservation with us, too.

Sidecar at Firefore, 2nd Annual Labor Day Show

The Sidecar band will perform at Firefore, the 2nd annual Labor Day car show, at 311 E. Washington St. in Greenville on Thursday, August 29th, starting at 7 p.m. Sidecar is a five-piece rock and funk band. Attendees can dance and enjoy beer and food.

Music on Main Encore

Start your Labor Day weekend off right at the City of Spartanburg’s Free Music on Main Encore event on Sunday, September 1, at Morgan Square, 100 W. Main St., from noon to 9 p.m. The event will feature The High Tides from noon to 1:30 p.m., Xperience Soul from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Cody Webb from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the Jamie Wright Band from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Click here for more information. https://www.musiconmain.com

Labor Day Axe Throwing

Labor Day Festival in Downtown Chesnee

Operation Grow Spartanburg and CADA have partnered with the City of Chesnee to host a Labor Day weekend festival from 10 a.m. Saturday, August 31st to 6 p.m. September 2nd at Cada Park on W Cherokee St.

The event features live music, food trucks, local vendors, rides, kids’ activities, face painting and more.

Celebrate Anderson

The annual Celebrate Anderson Festival returns to the Anderson Civic Center on Labor Day weekend.Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st. Doors open at 5:30pm both nights. Randy Houser will headline Saturday and Ashley McBryde will headline Sunday.

Admission and parking are free. Visitors must bring ID and a debit or credit card if they wish to purchase food or alcohol. Visitors are welcome to bring chairs and blankets. Reserve tickets at: www.AndersonEvents.com

The event will also feature food trucks, vendors and children’s rides on Johnny Mathis Boulevard, the main entrance to the Civic Center.

Big Water Marina and Campground – Labor Day Tailgate Party

On Saturday, August 31, Big Water Marina will kick off the college football season and Labor Day weekend with a tailgating party at their campground at 320 Big Water Road in Starr. The event is open to people of all ages and pets.

There is a $5 parking fee for cars parked inside the gate. Free parking is available outside the gate. Guests will have convenient access to a shuttle bus that will transport them between the parking areas and the event site. Visitors are also asked to bring lawn chairs for comfortable seating in the tailgate area.

The event will feature Upstate vendors and food trucks and will broadcast the day’s biggest games live on a 12″ LED screen. Some of the Upstate food trucks that will be there include Twisted Q BBQ, Firehouse Dogs and Shaved Ice Shack. JR Cash’s Grill and Bar.

Guests can also enjoy a tailgate atmosphere with yard games like cornhole and special pop-up vendors including a trucker hat bar, face painting, candy from Sweet HoneyLou and kettle corn. Big Water Marina’s on-site restaurant also serves food and cocktails in its main dining area and rooftop bar. Parking inside the gate is $5.

Game entertainment: 12:00 p.m. – Clemson vs. Georgia, 3:30 p.m. – Texas vs. Colorado State and Miami-Florida, 7:00 p.m. – Live music by Jonathan Ingram.

Hot air affair, overcoming cancer

The Hot Air Affair, presented by the Cancer Association, will host an event on Labor Day weekend, Friday, August 30, through Monday, September 2, at the Anderson Civic Center Balloon Launch Site on Balloon Lane. The event will include a children’s area, food and merchandise vendors, balloon flights with Glow and Tethers, stage entertainment and live music by Trent “T-Bone” Loftis.
