After defeat at the US Open, Emma Raducanu hopes for more matches before the Grand Slams

Emma Raducanu has expressed her desire to play more matches before future Grand Slam tournaments following her first-round exit at the US Open against Sofia Kenin.

Raducanu, who was defeated by the American 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, was seeking her first victory at Flushing Meadows since her remarkable title win in 2021 as a teenage qualifier.

However, the 21-year-old Briton has struggled to repeat that success, exiting in the first round in 2022 and missing last year’s tournament due to wrist and ankle surgeries.

In the run-up to this year’s US Open, Raducanu only took part in one tournament, reaching the quarterfinals in Washington earlier this month.

During a post-match press conference, Raducanu admitted, visibly moved, that she was “sad” and “dejected” about the defeat, but stressed that she wanted to learn from the experience.

She admitted that she would have to “arrange her schedule a little differently” for the upcoming Grand Slam events.

“I would like to play more games. I probably wouldn’t still play every single tournament beforehand, but I would probably play more than I did this time. That’s a lesson I can learn for next year.”
