Islam Makhachev catches stray while Dana White defends Jon Jones’ activity for UFC’s P4P #1

Islam Makhachev catches stray while Dana White defends Jon Jones’ activity for UFC’s P4P #1

Two star fighters were involved in the debate about the best pound-for-pound fighter – Jon Jones And Islam MakhachevWhile most people believe the lightweight champion deserves the title, UF CEO Dana White is hesitant to choose anyone other than “Bones.” When asked about the issue during the recent Contender Series press conference, the 55-year-old seemed to lose it.

The biggest problem with Dana White’s claim regarding the P4P debate between Jon Jones and Islam Makhcahev is that the lightweight has not actually proven that he owns the number one spot. Why? Well, as many fans discussed last year, he almost lost to Alexander Volkanovskya featherweight, in their clash at UFC 284. This seemingly shattered any notion that Makhachev could be better than Jones for the UFC CEO.

“Many people believe that Islam has lost to the man who is one weight class below him. Is that how pound for pound works? Many people, including the people in this room,” Dana White explained during the Contender Series press conference. “He fought one weight class lower. Jones Jones fought one weight class higher… Jon Jones has always been willing to fight anyone.”

Dana White abandons Islam Makhachev for Jon Jones

When a reporter mentioned that Jon Jones is not as active as some of the other fighters, Dana White said, “He was active. He dislocated his damn shoulder in training, then had to recover and is still on his way back. Jon Jones is active.” The most common complaint about Jones is the fact that he has only had one fight in over four years and people don’t seem to know when he will make his comeback. In response to this statement, White revealed that most people already know that the heavyweight champion of the world will make his comeback at Madison Square Garden.

“This guy [one of the reporters] said he knew that he [Jones] Fight in fucking November. Am I going to announce it? I said, ‘I’ll announce it when the whole card is done, but everyone knows he’s fighting.’ Dana White sounded a little irritated by the P4P debate and completely dismissed any chance that Islam Makhachev deserves the top spot. “It’s bloody silly and I don’t know what game this is with everybody, but Jon Jones is pound for pound the best fighter in the world.” It doesn’t seem like White’s support for Jones will ever wane in the future.
