X Down: Downdetector reports worldwide outage of Elon Musk’s social media platform, formerly known as Twitter

According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), owned by billionaire Elon Musk, faced global outages on Wednesday, August 29. Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from multiple sources, including users, showed that around 9 am IST, over 700 people reported outages in India, while the website reported 27,700 reports of outages in the US by 11:15 pm ET.

Outage Detection Website: In India, nearly 71% of app users and 27% of desktop users say they are affected by the outage.

News agency Reuters reported that as of 11:20 p.m. ET, outage tracking website Downdetector.com had reported over 3,300 reports of problems with X from Canada and 1,600 reports from the UK. The cause of the outage is still unknown. However, X has not issued an official statement on the outage, which has affected the world.

What is the problem?

The exact reason for the outage is still unclear. On social media, users reported seeing the message “Something went wrong. Try again” when accessing the platform. The company has not yet confirmed the outage.
