Classmate speaks about man killed in police-involved shooting

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A north Alabama woman has spoken out for the first time since her boyfriend was killed in a police-involved shooting, saying she was with him just hours before his death.

A Huntsville police officer shot and killed 38-year-old Naimmikal Sanders on Saturday.

They say Sanders shot a woman in front of a police officer at an apartment near Rime Village Drive. The officer fired back, killing Sanders.

Sanders’ girlfriend Tekita Holmes says she doesn’t think her boyfriend would ever do something like that.

She says she is still in shock from the whole thing.

“All I could do was cry, we were just together. I’m used to him coming to see me every day, and now I’ll never experience that again. This is crazy,” Holmes said.

The police officer who shot Sanders is currently on leave. The Alabama Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
